Renault 5 E-Tech available from competitive £22,995

Fresh from being announced as a Car of the Year 2025 nominee, pricing for the Renault 5 E-Tech has been announced, with an impressive starting point of £22,995.

New car prices have risen in the last decade, contributing to increasing activity in the second hand market. The Renault 5 now becomes the third most affordable EV in the UK, behind the Citroen e-C3 at £21,035 and Dacia Spring at £14,995.

In non-EV terms, the cheapest new car is another of Dacia’s offerings - the Sandero, at £13,795.

Trim Levels

The 5 is available in three trim levels - Evolution, Techno and Iconic Five. The two powertrains are the 118bhp Urban range and 148bhp Comfort range.

Evolution

The entry-level 5 is the Urban range Evolution trim and starts from £22,995. Here, you get a 118bhp electric motor paired with a 40kWh battery, giving you 190 miles of range. Accelerating from 0-62mph takes 9 seconds, and the car sits on 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

Also as standard are LED lights, a 10.1 inch infotainment screen, 7-inch digital dial display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as cruise control and a heat pump.

Techno

Paying £24,995 will mean a larger 10-inch dial display, adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charger, rear-view camera, shark fin antenna, two-tone paint options, a central armrest with storage and an illuminated ‘5’ charging position on the bonnet.

Upping to £26,995 for the Comfort variant gives you 248 miles of range and a 0-62mph time of 7.9 seconds. It isn’t the fastest of cars, with 93mph being the limit for all variants.

Iconic Five

If you’re looking to up the ante even further, there’s the Iconic Five variant, starting at £26,995 for the Urban range.

In addition to everything you get with the Techno spec, the Iconic Five comes with 18-inch diamond cut alloys, a heated steering wheel, heated front seats with lumbar adjustment, active driver assist, hands-free parking, blind sport warning and rear passenger safety alert.

The highest level Iconic Five Comfort variant is available for £28,995.

Colours

Pop Yellow and Pop Green - a nod to 1970s catalogue colours - are available from launch, as well as Arctic White, Diamond Black and Midnight Blue. As previously mentioned, two-tone paint options are available with the Techno and Iconic 5 trim levels.

When do order books open?

The Renault 5 is available to order from January, with first deliveries due to take place in Spring. For those still unsure, the 5 will be available at showrooms to test drive in March.

The car has been highly praised by critics already, so expect to see plenty on the roads in 2025. Could this also be the car to persuade EV sceptics to take the plunge?
