Ferrari to supply engines to Cadillac F1 team

Ferrari gearbox and power unit for 2026

Ferrari and Cadillac have reached an agreement, which will see the Prancing Horse supply the American team with its power unit and gearbox for its debut season.

Cadillac is awaiting formal approval to become the 11th team on the F1 grid in 2026 with a proposal backed by General Motors and TWG Global. The agreement is set to fill the gap until the Cadillac team is able to build its own power unit in as soon as 2028.

Ferrari has supplied its engines to Sauber in recent years and will continue to do so with the newly formed Audi team.

Thrilled to partner with Ferrari

Frédéric Vasseur, Team Principal Scuderia Ferrari HP: “It’s great to see the commitment of another American team, backed by one of the most highly respected marques in the motor industry, at a time when Formula 1 is increasing in popularity in the United States. We are delighted therefore that we will be supplying the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration. It means we will continue to have two “customer teams” in the championship with all the benefits this brings in terms of technical development within Ferrari.”

Graeme Lowdon, Team Principal of Cadillac Formula 1 Team: “We are thrilled to partner with Ferrari as the power unit and gearbox supplier for our Cadillac team, bringing together two remarkable legacies. Choosing the right power unit partner is crucial, and we trust in Ferrari’s passion, excellence and the exceptional capabilities of their people.”

What happens now?

Cadillac will now await formal confirmation of its place in F1 from the FIA. It is expected to go through without too much difficulty, by which time thoughts will switch driver recruitment.
