Maeving RM1S Blackout - Welcome to the Darkside of electric motorbikes
Just in case you're wondering, no, the colour settings on your screen are fine, and no, the images you're looking at here are not photographed in black and white, but the motorcycle you're looking at in the pictures is.
This is the RM1S Blackout - a new limited edition all-black on black with extra black version of the multi-award-winning Maeving RM1S, which has taken the world by storm as the new kid on the block, all-electric city commuter.
Why black?
This one is easy. Blacked-out motorcycles have been a thing since the good old days. Ask your motorcycling parents and grandparents about their favourite blacked-out versions of their favourite bikes, and chances are you'll be awarded a list of heroic models. From the Vincent Blackshadows of the 1940s through to the 'Dark' editions of Ducati models in recent years, blacked-out bikes have always been and always will be loved, and rightly so.
What's different?
In terms of hardware, electric range and tech, it's all pretty much the same as what you'll find on the standard RM1S (just like the one we reviewed here: https://driven.site/words/maeving-rm1s-review) but, being the blackout edition, much of that excellent hardware is now finished in an extra-moody monochrome scheme with some extra special materials setting it above the stock bikes.
The Blackout features a new Matt black and silver tank scheme and new
matt carbon mudguards with a silver tint. The clever battery housing is finished in matt carbon with a silver tint, and the castings on the braided conduit connecting the battery and controller housings are sleek gunmetal.
Posh suspension as standard
The suspension has the upgraded K-Tech Razor 'Lite' shock absorbers as standard (an upgrade on the standard bike), rewarding a slightly more sporty ride.
How many and how much?
Perhaps the most significant selling point to the RM1S Blackout is the limited run. Just 300 of the limited edition bikes will be sold worldwide.
If you want one and you've already been contemplating an RM1S, you'll need to be quick and ready to part with an extra £1,500 on top of what you'd be spending on the standard model (before options). The Blackout is on offer for just £8,995
