New Mercedes-AMG electric flagship SUV set for future release
Mercedes-AMG has confirmed it is developing an electric SUV entirely in-house at its headquarters in Affalterbach, Germany.
The SUV, referred to matter of factly at this as “Born in Affalterbach", is the second model to be built on its all-electric AMG.EA platform. The first of its offerings - an electric AMG four-door GT - is expected to be released in 2026, with the SUV potentially arriving a year or so after. The SUV will also be the sixth vehicle fully developed by AMG, after the GT, SL, and SLS.
We currently only have this side on sketch to go off so far, but it suggests a coupe-like shaped rear end and long bonnet. When released, the new full-size SUV will likely be competing in the market against the Porsche Cayenne Electric and Lotus Eletre.
The high-performance SUV is nearing its first test drive, with prototypes set to take to the roads this winter.
Michael Schiebe of Mercedes-AMG: “SUVs have been among our most popular models for many years. With the ‘Born in Affalterbach’ SUV, we are responding to this trend by offering our customers a truly captivating high-performance off-roader based on the AMG.EA platform. Our new high-performance architecture follows a clear philosophy: ‘AMG First, EV Second.’ This means that the vehicles not only excel as electric vehicles but also embody the core AMG qualities of emotion and performance.”
