New Porsche 911 Hybrid set for full reveal later this month

All eyes will be on the presentation from Porsche as it showcases one of the most significant releases in its history.

Following an extensive testing and development programme, the first ever hybrid Porsche 911 is ready to enter production and will be fully revealed on May 28th.

Testing has taken place at the Nürburgring and saw Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister complete a 7:16.934 minute lap of the circuit on standard road tyres which the German brand says is “8.7 seconds faster than the corresponding version of the predecessor model”. Downforce at high speeds was increased by the addition of an aero kit with a fixed rear wing that has been seen on several 911s in the past.

While details around the configuration of the new 911’s powertrain remain elusive for now, the car clearly impressed Bergmeister at the Ring.

Bergmeister reflected: “The new 911 has become considerably faster on the track. We have more grip, significantly more power, and the spontaneous response of the performance hybrid is a great advantage.”

As well as being put through its paces at the Nürburgring, the new hybrid 911 has been driven out on the road in different climates to prepare it for its release in the future.

Frank Moser, Vice President of the 911 and 718 lineups said: “We left nothing to chance during the development and tested the new 911 under all sorts of conditions all over the world. From the freezing cold to scorching heat, as was the case during the final stages of testing in Dubai. Whether at a high drivetrain load in the demanding conditions of mountain passes or in the stop-and-go traffic of an urban environment, the new 911 has mastered even the most difficult challenges with aplomb. All in all, our engineers and test drivers clocked up more than five million kilometres of development driving."

This hybrid 911 joins a growing upcoming release list from Porsche which includes the Macan EV, Taycan and Panamera models as well as the new Cayenne GTS next year. Check back for the full reveal from Porsche on May 28th…
