Order books have opened for the new Vauxhall Mokka Hybrid with prices starting from £25,320 and deliveries set to commence this month

The Mokka is the latest Vauxhall to incorporate 48-volt hybrid technology which contains a lithium-ion battery combined with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 136hp at 5,500rpm and maximum torques of 230Nm at 1,750rpm. This engine is then coupled to an electrified six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an electric motor is integrated into the gearbox, producing 21kW (28hp) and 55Nm of torque.

Whether the Mokka is undertaking city streets, country roads or motorways, the petrol engine and electric motor can operate either together or separately in order to optimise energy consumption and performance. Up to 1km can be driven on electric power alone when moving at speeds of under 18mph and during deceleration at normal speeds, the petrol engine stops and the e-motor acts as a generator to recharge the hybrid system's 48V battery.

There are three driving modes to choose from - Eco, Normal and Sport. Eco is naturally the most efficient, while sport mode keeps the petrol engine running to maximise performance. For an even more economical drive, the Mokka is also available with a choice of two electric versions.
