Collecting Cars sells 1,000th Ferrari
Total combined sales generated reaches £129 million
While Driven’s John Marcar flies around various circuits as part of the Ferrari Challenge UK, online auction site Collecting Cars has reached a significant milestone with the sale of its 1,000th Ferrari model.
The Prancing Horse officially commands, on average, 17.3% more bids than any other brand on the auction platform. Over 700 of the 1,000 Ferraris have been sold in the UK, while 200 were sold across the rest of Europe. Around 70 have been auctioned throughout the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions.
What was the 1,000th Ferrari to be sold?
The Ferrari sale that tipped Collecting Cars’ sales of the Prancing Horse into the four-figure territory was a bespoke 2013 FF personally commissioned by Ferrari Chairman John Elkann, and built as a tribute to his late grandfather, the Italian industrialist and principal shareholder of Fiat, Gianni Agnelli.
The one-off version of Ferrari’s 6.3-litre V12 grand tourer with 9874 miles on the clock sold for £200,000 after a total of 84 bids. Finished in Nuovo Blu over a Blu cloth-trimmed cabin featuring a host of cosmetic touches, including Cavallino-embossed headrests, contrast piping, and blue-toned carbon-fibre inlays.
Significant Ferrari sales by Collecting Cars
This 1997 Ferrari F50 was once owned by the legendary singer, Sir Rod Stewart. It achieved £2,940,500 at auction.
Another frontman, Jay Kay of Jamiroquai, owned this 2016 Ferrari F12 TDF. It eventually sold for £792,500. The celebrity factor proves to be a key ingredient in some of the Ferrari sales on the online platform over the years.
In 2023, this 1991 Ferrari F40 - driven by Chris Harris and twice a cover star for Evo magazine - commanded a hefty fee, selling for £1,701,000.
A Ferrari from more recent times, this 2024 SF90 XX Spider, sold for €1,700,000 in April this year. One of just 599 examples produced, it became the first of its kind to be auctioned worldwide.
As one of only 999 examples, this 2022 Ferrari 812 Competizione also passed the seven-figure mark, selling for €1,310,000 in February 2023. Described 'as new’ by Collecting Cars, this Ferrari came with only 193 miles on the clock, unfortunately proving that putting miles on these machines is a key depreciator in pricing.
“Ferrari is one of the benchmark brands in the collector car world”
Edward Lovett, Founder of Collecting Cars, said: “Ferrari is one of the benchmark brands in the collector car world – it resonates across generations, markets and continents. That so many sellers are increasingly choosing to sell their Ferraris online with us is a testament to the trust we’ve built, the transparency of our process, and the strength of our global audience. But this is more than just about numbers – it shows how far online auctions have come, and where the future is heading.”
Based in the UK, Collecting Cars has now sold over 20,000 lots in total, generating more than £800 million in sales.
