Sixth generation Micra will go on sale later this year

After more than 40 years on the market, and now in its sixth generation, the all-new Nissan Micra will finally be electric powered.

The electric Micra will be available from later this year and is part of Nissan’s new strategy in Europe that will see four new EVs released by 2027, including new versions of the Leaf, Juke and Qashqai.

New Exterior

Sitting on three different options of 18-inch wheels, the new Micra has a refreshed look that the brand says combines a “premium exterior finish with an SUV-like design.” Uh oh.

Nissan’s thin circular headlamps give the front of the Micra a distinctive look and now perform a short choreographed “welcome wink”, pulsing from left to right and then right to left. At the rear, the lights are similar-ish in shape but toned down somewhat.

Running from the rear door to the headlamps is what Nissan’s designers are calling the ‘ice cream croop’. It is a 1cm wide indent in the side of the new Micra which, in the words of Nissan, “is reminiscent of the shape a scoop would make if dragged across the surface of untouched ice cream.” Right then.

A total of 14 different colours will be available to choose from at launch. These include Pure White, Elegant Silver, Mystery Black, Noble Marine, Authentic Blue, and Rebel Red. Two-tone colour options allow the customer to combine the body colour with either a black or grey roof.

The new MICRA is built on the AmpR shared EV platform, and will only be available in a five-door configuration. At 4 metres in length and less than 1.8 metres wide, Nissan has made an effort to give the new Micra improved interior space.

Range and charging times

The Nissan Micra EV comes with the choice of two battery options. The 40kWh comes with 225Nm of torque and a range of 192 miles, while the slightly heavier 52kWh option has 245Nm of torque and 253 miles of range.

Although Nissan admits this car has been primarily designed as a car for the ‘urban jungle’, 253 miles of range should be enough for the odd road trip. And using a 100kW DC charger, you’ll manage a 15-80% charge in around half an hour when stopping at service stations.

There’s also room for plenty of luggage with 326 litres of boot capacity, while 40/60 foldable rear seats are able to extend that up to 1106 litres.

Interior

The new Micra’s interior has been themed around ‘simple, understated elegance’, while hints to its Japanese heritage include a moulded outline of Japan’s most famous landmark, Mount Fuji, incorporated into the storage space between the front seats.

Drivers are faced with a 10.1 inch hi-res screen behind the three-spoke wheel, and next to that, covering the full width of the dashboard, sits the additional 10.1 inch touchscreen display, facing slightly towards the driver.

The type of upholstery used on the front and rear seats depends on which of the Modern, Audacious and Chill trims you go for. Adjustable ambient lighting allows the driver to choose from 48 different colours and “set a scene in the cabin that reflects their mood.”

For the second time on a European Nissan model, Google will be built into the infotainment system, giving users access to Google Maps and a variety of apps through its Google Play Store. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard for owners who prefer to connect through their mobile phones.

The new Micra also comes with a ton of safety features Nissan ProPilot Assist, offering lane-keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control and emergency braking. Additional features include Autonomous Emergency Braking, Emergency Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Intelligent Speed Assist and Driver Monitoring System. Add to this Blind Spot Warning Intervention, Lane Change Warning, Rear Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Occupant Safe Exit alert, and you should feel pretty secure.

What is the Nissan Micra EV available to order?

Nissan says sales of its new Micra will begin in late 2025, with deliveries due to start in January 2026. While prices are yet to be announced, expect it to cost around the same £23,000 area as its Renault 5 competitor.
